Invitation: July Book Club with Laura Cathcart Robbins author of "Stash"
Join us as we talk addiction, shame, and the art of memoir
SOME NEWS! This month only you can check out Creative Commitment, my new ongoing writing group, for free (your subscription will automatically be comped within 24 hours of signup). Meeting times are still subject to change based on group availability - but will be finalized for July meetings onward.
I love it when I pick up a book, and I’m immediately under the spell of the author’s voice. That was my experience from the moment I opened up Laura Cathcart Robbin’s best-selling book Stash: My Life in Hiding. It’s not just her voice and personality, but also her storytelling that pull you in as you follow her through the depths of addiction into the reclamation of her life. I can’t wait to talk to her about the intersections of addiction and race, shame and pride, and the art of memoir.
Laura is (unsurprisingly) a great memoir instructor and a phenomenal essayist. She is the SDWF’s 2024 Memoirist Of The Year, a TEDx Speaker, and an LA Moth StorySlam winner. Her latest piece in the New York Times Modern Love “Marriage Made an Actor Out of Me” is a fantastic read to dive into alongside the memoir.
She is also the host of the popular podcast, The Only One In The Room. She has been active for many years as a speaker and school trustee and is credited for creating The Buckley School’s nationally recognized committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Currently, she sits on the advisory boards of the San Diego Writer’s Festival and the Outliers HQ podcast Festival.
Find out more about her on her website, lauracathcartrobbins.com, or you can find her on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and follow her on X.
Join us live in conversation for The Angry Woman Book Club on Thursday, July 25th at 1:45pm PT/ 4:45pm ET.
