Invitation: October Book Club with Soraya Chemaly author of "The Resilience Myth"
Join us October 4th at 8am PT/11am ET
MAGAZINE WRITING 101 is almost sold out! If you haven’t snagged your spot in this comprehensive course on all things freelance and magazine writing, don’t miss out. Live classes start Monday, October 14th at 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET.
I feel like I’ve been waiting all year for this particular book club, or at least ever since I received an advance copy of
’s new book The Resilience Myth. As a writer who is regularly working through trauma, resilience is often on my mind and the way Soraya has reframed this concept for me has been life-changing.I knew I would be a forever fan of her work when I first read Rage Becomes Her, which came out in the same year as my first book Fed Up, which is how we first met. Because our first book publications were close together (and closely related on the topic of women’s rage AND had reversed color scheme covers) we were interviewed and featured together in magazines a lot during our pub year. We finally got to meet in person at the All About Women Festival at the Sydney Opera House, which to date was one of the coolest experiences of my life.
I still remember listening to her give the keynote at that festival and thinking “god, I hope I’m as smart as her one day.” (I’m still hoping). Soraya remains one of my favorite authors not only because her books are so well-researched and intelligent, but because she is such a wonderful person besides. I can’t wait to see how her writing and thinking continues to shape the cultural landscape for years to come.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of listening to Soraya speak, you can check out her series of IG Lives that have come out since her book release. They are fantastic. She’s spoken with authors and activists including
, , , , and so many others.I really hope you can join us live in conversation for The Angry Woman Book Club on Friday, October 4th at 8:00am PT/11:00am ET. I can’t wait to dive into the myths we hold about resilience and how we can forge a different path toward healing.
The live book club is always free to attend, so invite a friend! You can add it to your google calendar with the zoom link included below:
If you have questions for either of us, you can ask them during the live Q&A or ask them in the comments here. A recording will be made available for paid subscribers who can’t attend live.
