Don't miss this Magazine Writing Masterclass with Gemma Hartley
(Psst! If you sign up Monday, you can get in for only $22!)
I’ve been in the freelance world for well over a decade, and I have written for dozens of online and print magazines in that time.
Now, you might be thinking, well yeah, cause you’re a published author. But actually, the vast majority of my magazine bylines came BEFORE I wrote my book Fed Up: Emotional Labor, Women, and the Way Forward.
I placed my first print magazine article with GLAMOUR back when I was still relatively green as a freelance writer, and followed it up only a couple months later with a print piece in Women’s Health. This was years before my viral Harper’s Bazaar article and the book that followed.
I want to show you how to land a piece in one of your favorite glossy magazines, because honestly, there’s nothing more thrilling than holding your published work in your own two hands. (Also, a writing accomplishment your mom actually understands? Mind blowing.)
I’m going to teach you exactly how to:
Find editor emails and figure out who to pitch
Craft captivating pitches that editors will take to their editorial meetings
Search for expert sources to add depth to your storytelling
Understand editorial calendars to make your pitches timely
Negotiate higher rates for your work
Brainstorm big ideas that you’re excited to write
I’m going to tell you right now that first bullet point is one that most freelancers guard like a goddamn dragon. Not here. I’m spilling all my best tips for pitching BIG, because I want to see you get published.
This live course will take place Tuesday, August 20th at 10am PT/1pm ET with replay available after. It’s going to be an absolute steal at $49, but this Monday 7/22 (ahem, my birthday), it will be on sale for $22 for one day only.
Make sure you’re subscribed to this newsletter so you don’t miss out! I can’t wait to share this amazing content with all of you!
Tell me: what are you most excited to learn about magazine writing?

This sounds so generous, Gemma. I would love to join you.
