Invitation: September Book Club with Melissa Petro author of "Shame On You"
Let's get into the mechanics of shame that hold women hostage
LAST WEEK FOR FREE CONSULTATIONS! And I won’t be reopening them until 2025. So if you want to get serious about your writing before the end of the year, let’s talk. I work on in-progress manuscripts, book proposals, and do lots of developmental and line editing in my client work as well as that vital accountability aspect you (definitely) need.
With 1:1 consults, there’s no commitment, just an exploration of what coaching can look like for you and some time to ask questions to get to know me. Book a time to chat today!
As most of you know, I’ve been at work on a new book No One Loves An Angry Woman which will be published by Beacon press in a couple years. The writing work has brought up a LOT of big feelings, and one that I’ve been processing a lot recently is shame. Specifically the shame that comes with girlhood - the shame around our bodies, our interests, our desires.
When I received an advanced copy of
’s new book Shame On You it felt kismet. (I’ve just been quoting her work in a chapter of my book this week). Our work has been deeply intertwined for a long time, and I’m thrilled that her new book has brought us together again.Melissa and I first met when I was writing Fed Up: Emotional Labor, Women, and the Way Forward and interviewed her for the book. It has been wonderful watching her career soar, and I cannot wait for you all to read her book.
It is such a wonderful deep dive into the myriad ways shame shows up in our lives, highlighted by the experiences of real women. I’m asked to review books quite often, and rarely give endorsements, but saying yes to this one was an absolute no-brainer.
Shame On You comes out September 10th, and pre-orders are SUPER important for authors (especially when your book comes out the same day as the presidential debate), so get your copy now!
Melissa is also a successful freelancer (we’ve both in the game FOREVER) and she publishes the Substack newsletter
